Dan Quayle 2016

(In a surprise move, Former Vice-President Quayle announces his candidacy at Arizona State University)

Good evening! Many of you are, I am sure, taken by surprise by this sudden announcement. But there is a reason why I am putting myself as a candidate. Our country has been set back by eight years of slow recovery, turmoil abroad, and a complete lack of cohesion between the White House and the Congress. We need someone who knows how to get things done in the White House, someone who can work with opposition, someone who can make the hard choices. Well of all the candidates that have come forth, I don't see anything resembling that.

I have a unique background, I can do all those things, and I have done those things. I've had the experience of being in the White House and being a part of those decisions, I've been in the Senate and had to work with democratic majorities, we all want to make America better, but we have to find common ground, and find what America needs, and what we, the American people want.

So when it comes down to it, you have to ask yourself who you trust in the White House, someone with no experience, someone who cares only about power, someone who is an idealist, or someone who's had to make those hard decisions, and wants the best for America. So let's go forth to win the White House, as conservatives, as Republicans, as Americans!

Excerpt from Town Hall:

Q: Why did you decide to run for President after all these years?

A: (Chuckle) Well, while it has been awhile, I've remained active in politics in more behind the scenes roles. But I decided to run because the Republican party needs unity, a leader they can get behind, because if the party isn't unified, there isn't a chance that we will win the White House. I have experience, conviction, and the understanding that the Republican party is a big tent. I have something to offer everyone, from the moderates to the conservatives, and even to the libertarians. I believe I am that leader that can take the whole Republican party to the White House.

Speech by Dan Quayle, in Tuscon, AZ:

Good evening, when I started my campaign it was because I wanted to make a difference, to unite the party, and get America working again. However, I have decided that the best course of action is not running for president. Instead I am withdrawing to help my son Ben Quayle to run for Senate here in Arizona. For the Republican nomination, I throw my backing behind Senator Cruz.
