This one probably depends on who wins North Carolina at the Presidential level. Since I think that will be the Republican nominee, this is no better than a tossup for Democrats, though they did get their strongest candidate by a mile here.

I predict NC will go D by 4% in the gubernatorial election, and by 1% at the presidential level.

I still think the Republican nominee will carry North Carolina, but unless Robinson actually loses the primary, I think I've seen enough to say Stein will probably win regardless.

Walker's a strong enough candidate to possibly beat Robinson in the primary (so is Folwell, for that matter).

This is definitely looking like a primary where a Trump endorsement could be decisive.

Mark Walker is offically in.

Quote
Former Republican Rep. Mark Walker launched a campaign for North Carolina governor Saturday, pitching himself as the best chance Republicans have to not squander an opportunity to flip a long sought after gubernatorial seat.

Walker’s announcement pits him against Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, a MAGA-inspired former pastor who many in the state assume is the frontrunner to secure the Republican nomination.

Board of Transportation member and former State Senator Andy Wells has entered the Republican Primary.

Quote
A fourth Republican has entered North Carolina’s 2024 governor’s race: Former state legislator and current Board of Transportation member Andy Wells.

A real estate developer, Wells promises to focus on economic issues, and he is critical of massive federal spending and its impact on inflation.

“Working families are struggling with inflation,” he said Thursday. “I can’t get workers to do work that I’ve got money to pay for.”

Wells, who is from Hickory, served one term in the North Carolina House and three in the state Senate. He ran for lieutenant governor in 2020, spending $500,000 of his own money on the race and placing a distant second in the Republican primary to now Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson.

Retired Health Care Executive Jesse Thomas has entered the Republican Primary.

Quote
A retired health care executive has entered next year’s race for North Carolina governor, with Jesse Thomas describing himself Tuesday as a “no-nonsense Republican” who aims to attract voters within the “wide middle ground between the two extremes.”

Thomas, who led the Medicaid plan offered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina to hundreds of thousands of consumers, announced his bid on a Greensboro-area podcast last week, when he also filed his candidate committee paperwork.

Recently involved in the North Carolina chapter of the Forward Party — founded by former presidential candidate Andrew Yang — Thomas joins an already crowded GOP gubernatorial field. Republican candidates include Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, State Treasurer Dale Folwell, former U.S. Rep. Mark Walker and ex-state legislator Andy Wells.
