Nice of the FBI director to totally steal the news cycle from them.

No, I've seen stories that Tyson, Ditka, and the Nascar guy won't be speaking.

Gives Trump time to find an obscure distant relative of Saddam who's still alive and give a speech praising Trump for his support of Saddam.

So, I guess Trump took a sign up sheet with him to Senate Meeting and nobody but Ted signed up.

There will be a sign up sheet outside of the gym for anyone who wants to speak at the convention.  Thank You.

Normally, the presumptive nominee's campaign keeps tight control over what the speakers are allowed to talk about, to make sure everyone's on message.  But the Trump campaign is sufficiently disorganized that I'm not sure they're going to bother.  Will be interesting to see who goes way off script.

Romney didn't do the best job either. Empty Chair was a flop, and Christie didn't even say the word "Romney" until 17 minutes into his speech.

IIRC, no one vetted Clint Eastwood's speech because he's a famous actor or something.  In the case of Christie, I think he actually deviated from the talking points he said he was going to make.

That's always possible.  Someone can always tell you that they'll talk about X, but then once they're on live TV there's nothing to stop them from saying whatever they want.  However, in the case of Trump, I'm more wondering if there's going to be any vetting of the speeches at all.  I mean, if he's giving out a speech to Cruz without even getting an endorsement, then what the heck is going on?

While it's been a long time since I've been at a convention, you were always able to get a copy of the various speeches to be given by the  speakers like 15 to 30 minutes before they spoke.  They were embargoed and couldn't be leaked by the media or theoretically anyone beforehand, but they also would have served as an obvious document if someone went off the reservation.  Now, with social media, maybe these things have been tightened up and are released virtually as the speaker comes to the podium, still, if someone wasn't following the approved script, I think it would be widely reported the difference between the released speech and what the person said that wasn't in the official speech release, and I doubt s/he would get to speak again.

Maybe they can turn it into a game show.  The orator's give their speeches without lighting and a "celebrity" panel has to guess who they are.

Texas Gov Greg Abbott may miss the convention after suffering severe burns from a hot water accident in Jackson Hole, Wy.  He's having his legs wrapped daily and has to wear orthopedic shoes instead of boots.

May not contain anything new but it's a one page list of what we know so far:

Obviously it'd be Attorney General for Christie. Secretary of Defense for Flynn. Gingrich...hmmm....Maybe OMB Director?

Flynn can't serve as Secretary of Defense. I'd guess Director of National Intelligence for him.

Christie should get Secretary of Labor, but yeah, probably AG, unfortunately.

I think Newt could conceivably be made SecDef or National Security Advisor.

Christie confidant pleads guilty

David Samson, a longtime confidant of Governor Christie, pleaded guilty Thursday to federal charges of using his former position as chairman of the Port Authority to pressure United Airlines to reinstate a flight to South Carolina, where he had a weekend home.

-----
He basically pulled a hangar project United wanted off of the Port Authority agenda until they reinstated the flight.

Clearly Christie and his gang of mooks should be penciled in at the Dept of Transportation.

Flynn will get a Defense related post, Corker as Secretary of State, Christie as attorney general, Gingrich as Interior.

Gingrich would be better as Budget Director or at Treasury. Jan Brewer would better fit for Interior.

Flynn will get a Defense related post, Corker as Secretary of State, Christie as attorney general, Gingrich as Interior.

Trump Jr. wants interior. He'll get it.

Nah, would be unlawful. You can't appoint direct relatives to the cabinet.

Tell that to JFK.

The law was changed since then. I think already in the Johnson-Administration.

Can you cite this? I'm not necessarily doubting you but I've never heard that.

Pity Johnny Manziel isn't making a triumphant return to Cleveland.  That would have been showbiz.

Not too late to add this guy to the speaker list

WV delegate calls for Clinton to be executed

Delegate Michael Folk, R-Berkeley, tweeted to Clinton late Friday afternoon that she should be “should be tried for treason, murder, and crimes against the US Constitution... then hung on the Mall in Washington, DC.”

United Airlines, which employs Folk as a commercial pilot, tweeted that they are looking into the situation.
