This might open up a potentially competative senate race.

It only voted for Clinton 11% in 2016; this was a D+2 year. As long as the GOP doesn't run Christine O'Donnell again, it could definately be competative if the national environment is more favorable to the GOP. It's the same reason states with senate races that normally wouldn't have been competative are now competative, such as SC and AK, are now competative, through strong canidates, big name incumbents (in the case of SC), and good fundraising.

You realize the GOP is currently running a QAnon believer against Coons, right?

Delaware is less blue than states like SC and AK are red. Heck, DE voted closer to the NPV in 2016 than TX.

Sen. Bob Menendez could be a good choice. He was the chairman of the Foreign Relations committee (2013-15) and has since been the ranking member. Joe Biden and John Kerry were the two previous Dem chairman of the committee. Hilary Clinton and John Kerry, the past two Dem SoS (both during Biden's time as VP), were both senators. His personal story is a plus (born to working class Cuban immigrants). If Biden wants to make Latin America a key part of his foreign policy (which I hope he does) there's no way Menendez isn't seriously considered.

People I imagine are on his shortlist
- Chris Murphy
- Ron Wyden
- Samantha Power
- Susan Rice

Dark horse possibilities:
- Maria Otero
- Rosemary DiCarlo
- Karen Bass
- Joaquin Castro

I'd like to see him appoint Marie Yovanovitch, just for the F.U it would give to Trump.

In reality, the pick probably will be someone along the lines of Susan Rice.

It will probably be Susan Rice or Samantha Power, but I think Pete Buttigieg might be in consideration for SoS or some other Cabinet position.

If it could happen in Massachusetts it could happen anywhere.

Outlier election is an outlier election. Is Alabama going to start voting for Democrats now because Doug Jones won in 2017?

I detest Chris Coons, but would welcome this so long as it guarantees another Black person (even one as 'career-oriented' as LBR) gets a seat in the US Senate.

Lmao, Delaware first of all isn't comparable to Alabama or MA, secondly DE is a great future GOP state, the growth trends there are great for the GOP with the 2 southern counties growing insanely fast while Wilmington is stagnant. I don't think it would be ready to flip in generic D vs R in 2022 unless its a really big R wave.

Atlas and Democrats are way too protective on blue states, If Trump somehow won and picked a Kansas senator as his pick everyone would go on ITS GONNA FLIP, but no one ever thinks the opposite could happen.
