Btw, one thing in my post responding to David needs correcting: Germans were also facing death penalty if caught harboring the Jews, though in Poland in most cases the entire family was killed.

Btw, Wolf Biermann in his postscriptum to Szpilman's "The Pianist" cites that between 300 to 400 thousand Poles were involved at some point in aiding the Jews during the war, although that's the only estimate I could find.
