Assuming we aren't eliminating crop insurance, we would need to determine how much the government is going to designate for that, then go off the remainder to determine the first two clauses.

Well yes thank you Tmth, and while my own looking at the Federal Budget show that crop insurance does make up of the Farm Subsidies + Crop Insurance, I think this more precise question is for Sirnick to answer. I think the answer would be it would be around $2 or $3 Billion left over.

Maybe we should have a clause that says this does not go after crop insurance.

So that leaves it to $8 billion for farm subsidies...

Friendly for the moment being. If Sirnick's numbers come up otherwise, we can make proper changes.

Do farmers pay a premium for that?

I'm going to just go ahead and object. If farmers don't have to pay any premiums for crop insurance (though I could be wrong about that), isn't that just a form of subsidy? Although I will admit it's much, much better than paying people not to grow things.

It's free for the most part, but farmers can pay premium to get above the regular level of service.

While the next Senate looks slightly more favorable to passing this, I still want this to be a process in which we are able to successfully to cut a program while not causing damage to the economy.

Aye.

I want this bill to be able to pass the Senate, and since there are some real life things that make crop insurance necessary, I am for that change. This will not change the name, due to the fact that, on the budget, farm subsidies and crop insurance are separate (though within the same line).

However, I still feel we could modify it so that it truly helps farmers who need it. Tmth seems a bit more well-versed on those issues than I, so maybe he could help with a mechanism that would allow Crop Insurance to exist.

Is there anything else we can do about this guys? I'm waiting for the GM's assessment whenever he gets inaugurated in.

Here is a totally superficial amendment that will make things look better.

While I will still be voting Nay, I think the damage this will do to rural areas is less than under the original text.

I guess I could expect that, and so then after this amendment moves steadily through, unless another Senator wants to contribute to this bill, I will move for a final vote.
