Why would there be so many ticket-splitters in this 2020?

Because Senate Republicans went nuts in the 2019-2021 session, attempting to investigate everyone and everything. It doesn't help that the RSCC under the command of Senator Don Blankenship boosts terrible candidates like Steve King in Iowa and Ann Coulter in Maine.
Coulter mounted a primary challenge to Ed Donnell during the 2020 Republican primaries, winning one delegate in Iowa.
