History is really a beautiful and yet profane thing isn't? There is another pretty prominent group that likes to talk about the crusades a lot... I particularly like when history is used as short hand to create a nice good vs. bad dynamic. I've seen it quite a bit and the results are seldom pretty.

It's historically inaccurate to see the Crusades as purely Christianity vs. Islam, although that was the main theme.

Crusaders also massacred Jews up and down the Rhine Valley and sacked Byzantium in the early 1200s. It's a detail that's part of the bigger picture. I think Santorum would benefit from examining all angles of the crusades, not just "they were a good thing with good intentions."

Don't forget the pagan Lithuanians and the Cathars.

Anyway, Deus Lo Vult, Sen. Santorum.

How is this strategy going to win? The ONLY thing he's done for a year now is psis people off.

He's attacked every single potential candidate multiple times, and makes comments like these. He turns people off constantly and makes SURE nobody wants him as their second or third choice which is crucial to a win.

Alan Keyes successfully used this tactic to increase his speaking fees on the lecture circuit. Maybe that's Santorum's goal?

Possibly. Though I have the feeling Santorum is struggling to realise his political career is pretty much over.

exactly
keyes knew he couldn't be elected. Santorum thinks he can...and that there's an even better chance with this behavior?

Maybe if one does little thought. Remember: the GOP does very well among low-information voters, the people most likely to believe mythologized history, economic and scientific quackery, and other propaganda.

That's incorrect but whatever floats your boat.

"The left hates Christendom". Roll Eyes

You caught me, Rick. My community thinks that by serving as a Deacon at services every other month, plus serving on the church consistory and related committees, I'm trying to serve my church community. Truly, I'm merely trying to undermine that wretched Christian church from the inside. Destroying it for liberalism and our secret socialist masters like Soros, Piven and "The One".

Damn you Santorum! You've exposed this liberal's secret hate for Christianity that I've worked so hard to camouflage with church attendance, congregational service, financial support---even going through the charade of baptizing my children. But all for not; nothing escapes the vigilance of Senator Santorum (R-Castille).

Even if this progressive's hate for Christianity has been exposed, there's still hope for my pastor. Now HE'S gone deep underground in his liberal secret hatred for Christianity to the point of pretending for decades his life's calling is to preach the Gospel . He'll never be exposed!   Mwahhahahaha!!! But I've already said too much......
