I'm excited to either see a Democratic victory OR write a scathing hot take about how Ossoff lost because of the complete lack of coherent Dem messaging on any issue besides being anti-Trump.

I will also take this time to note that Jon Ossoff's fundraising emails are THE WORST and whoever is in charge of writing them should never have a job on any Democratic campaign again.

They are all like this.

Has there ever been a more "Generic D" candidate than Ossoff? I feel like the DCCC would love to clone him and run him in every district if they could.

I just look forward to the GOP trying to rub these victories in our faces even though these districts have been solid for decades and yet came within 1-2 points of flipping blue. It's like they are sitting in a burning building.

I look forward to the GOP rubbing these victories in Dem's faces and Dems not changing strategies at all in response.

Both sides still need centrist voters. Not everyone is partisan.

Jon Ossoff was the most bland, policy-ignoring, featureless center-left asshole they could find and he still got called a f**king San Francisco Maoist.

When is Pelosi ever going to be held accountable 2010..2012..2014..2016..2018? Why are House Dems ok with this?

Didnt you hear? The geniuses over at the DNC are hiring Rham Emanuel to coordinate the 2018 mid-terms. He's going to brush the dust off the 90s DLC playbook and bring back the Clinton days! Sure it hasn't worked in nearly 20 years but dont worry ...any day now!
I don't think putting up ultra-liberal Sandernistas will do it
Tell it Jeremy Corbyn

The Dems have been running centrist trash all my life. It dosen't work and it never will. The GOP keeps pushing further and further right and they only win more. It's time for Dems to get a ing clue and chuck Pelosi, Hoyer, Perez, Schumer, et all to the side

When Corbyn overcame the media and half of his party slandering him as a radical, and gave Labour their first glimpse at the Prime Minister's seat in years, I was excited because finally the No Labels, "America is a center-right country" hacks would finally wake up. Instead they completely ignored it.

F**k the Democratic Party forever.

Your point? Some of you #DemExit people think the all-powerful DNC handpicks every single candidate, when in this case, and actually in all of these special elections this year, that has not been the case.

Do I think they handpick the candidate? No. But do they dictate the type of campaign Ossoff runs, including running on a bland "Durr Imma cut waste" message because that's what overpaid campaign assholes think is a winning strategy? Yes they absolutely do.

GOP will move more to the center over time. Centrism is the key for both parties

Centrism is why the world is on fire right now. Keep giving the people hollow means-tested policies to fix their problems and their demands will just move further and further away from moderation.

Ossoff ran the tried and true New Democrat "Identity Politics" campaign.  Instead of talking about real issues, he just focused on checking off the minority boxes and getting his womyn buzzwords into cute soundbites.  It's the reason Hillary lost and it's the reason Democrats will continue to lose.

He talked about Healthcare the most.

Try again.

Green Line gets uncomfortable when minorities appear in political commercials so he assumes the rest of "real America" does as well.

America is different than Britain. Some of Corbyn's policies I agree with but I don't like far-left Marxism nor right-wing fascism.

A campaign on Far left politics and socialism can't be run in the US because of welfare chauvinism plus black people exist in this country.

Oh yeah dude there's no racial tension in Britain at all.

$30 million to lose a Trump by 1.5 point district by 5 points? Sad!
Admit it, you're happier that Ossoff lost than you would have been if he won, aren't you?

Of course he is happy. Jfern is a mess.

You think I'm happy about how terrible the Democratic party is and how they will continue to not learn any lessons from epic failures like this?

You're not disproving the notion that you're happy about Ossoff himself losing.

Who gives a s**t if he is?

Trump's approval ratings continue to decline, there are multiple crises which are going unaddressed because of this administration's incompetence, the Republicans are inexplicably messing with healthcare and are intent on passing a bill with <20% support nationwide and virtually no support whatsoever from any major medical organizations, important positions related to national security and emergency preparedness/responsiveness are still unfilled, Trump is already facing pressure from a gleeful Putin who's fully aware of our president's incompetence, he's facing the biggest political scandal since Watergate and is now personally under investigation, and all of that is just scratching the surface.

Yeah...

MAGA, am I right?

None of that will matter when Democrats can't win because less and less people vote.

Tell it Jeremy Corbyn

It has always been the left that needs to sacrifice control and "be realistic" while the center has lost everything.

But no doubt they will double down on this terrible strategy of targeting the mythical moderate Republicans. "We only lost by a few points", they'll say, and we'll see a bunch of Jon Ossoff clones running in vulnerable Republican districts in 2018.
I see you changed your avatar

I'm done being a "member" of the Democrats. I'll vote for whomever runs against Erik Paulsen in MN-03 next year, but I can't keep calling myself a "Democrat".

Glad we came to this point around the same time!

They exist. GA is more conservative than VA and NC.

The Democratic Party is already left-wing. You have tax-raisers and anti-military folks. C'mon.

When your standards for being left wing are "wants to raise taxes" and "Thinks the US military could stand to tone it down a notch", you are DEFINITELY a centrist.

Do I think a socialist could have won this seat? No. But maybe the DCCC shouldn't go after white flight suburbans who are the CORE of the Republican Party, and backed Mitt Romney enthusiastically.

Implying you can't both run a issues campaign AND have the solution to those issues be socialististic in nature.

Democrats need to come up with a comprehensive agenda/manifesto; with REAL detailed policies and not just empty platitudes like "bring back the jobs". Give people a signal that the Democrats learned something from 2016, instead of just hoping that people finally hate Trump enough to hand Congress over to Democrats.

There are millions of people in this country, especially young people and minorities, who are natural voters for the Democrats but will never bother to vote because the party does absof***inglutely nothing for them but still acts like they have a DUTY to vote Dem. Chase these votes instead of the votes of some rich assholes who moved his family into the suburbs the moment he saw a black family move onto the same street as him. These people are the worst in America, and they should stay in the GOP where they belong.

Exactly.

It's as dumb as the naysayers 40 years ago who didn't believe welfare gutters "chasing Goldwater" could actually win when Ford couldn't and Carter just won and Nixon went out. All it takes is one charismatic guy to say "there you go again" against a less charismatic opponent.

Or more recently, Scott Walker, Paul LePage, and Rick Snyder and even Tom Corbett all flipped blue states in 2010 with none of this moderation bs. Staunchly far-right and unapologetic and they won because they seemed to have the issues down according to voters. They fell rather quickly though in office and it took dog-whistling and incompetent counter campaigns running on similar ideas to Ossoff to get re-elected...well except for Tom Corbett, he got rightfully taken out.

Thats not true , by 1979 Reagan was the odds on favorite to win the Republican nomination

Also Reagan was the favorite in the general long before the debate: https://highered.nbclearn.com/portal/site/HigherEd/flatview?cuecard=3252

Who do the dems have that can be Reagan , I dont see anybody they have who can(either too old or no where near as charismatic to win the nomination)

Also remember Reagan came from the governors office not the senate. When you look at who the dems have at the governor bench who can be their Reagan, you cant find any body but Jerry Brown who is way too old to run in 2020.

Reagan was a drooling senile war criminal who traded arms for hostages and America's social safety net for tax cuts. So maybe we shouldn't aspire to that.

So sick of the smug revisionism and, frankly, ignorance coming from liberals who claim that "before year XXXX, the GOP was alright and not crazy yet."  You all would have hated Eisenhower, just accept it.

Agreed, conservatism has always been a cancer and there are no good Republicans.

This election proves to me that the Republican Party is no longer a political party, it is a cult of low-IQ extremists that has no objectives for governing. It exists only to hold onto power at any cost. It is incredibly sad that getting people to vote Democratic when an incumbent President is disliked by 60% of voters is like trying to get people to shop at Kmart. America is doomed.

57.1% of the people in the great GA-6 have a four-year degree or better, and 79.5% went to some college.  Let's compare that to nearby GA-4, a D+24 district represented by a Democrat, where 29% have a four-year degree or better, and 61.6% went to some college.

You really shouldn't call either party's voters low-IQ when there are literally millions of each, but at least don't sound low IQ yourself while doing it.

It's the socially liberal SJWs who defend the idiot Republican cultists who I dislike the most.

the idiot Trump cult may be capable in their line of work, but they've all been programmed to mindlessly chant "fake news" at every story critical of President Trump or the Republican Party.

You can also look at the thousands of Republicans who pointed out that 'carbon is the stuff of life' after some fossil fuel association put out an anti global warming ad stating just that.  Every one that I saw regurgitated the tag line in that ad word for word.

If you look at the polling on people who 'believe' global warming is real, it's almost entirely Republicans who are the deniers, and and overwhelming number of Republicans are deniers, so this isn't a case of me believing that a relatively small number of Republican who post on message boards falsely represent the vast majority of Republicans.

I presume they must have some capabilities to hold a job to afford the internet, but base Republican voters are idiot cultists.
If I had a penn. for every time a Democrat called anything critical of Dems, especially Obama and Clinton, racist or sexist, I could pay off the US debt.

If I had a penny for every time a Republican was racist or sexist, I would have enough money that the GOP would actually care for what I have to say.

For the record, the 2016 D nominee for GA-06 has never been seen in public, has no known address, didn't make any form of webpage, spent $0, and may not even be a real person.
