Colonel Jonathan White Smith has emerged as a very prominent Confederate politician. He’s pretty young, was raised in a very poor home and nearly died of sickness at the age of 12, but took care of himself while his parents and siblings were away. As soon as the war started, Smith enlisted due to his poverty as a dock worker. In the first Battle of Bull Run his heroics won him a promotion to the rank of Lieutenant. Eventually, by the end of the year 1861, he was promoted to a Colonel. His heroics in defending a fort in Louisiana from a surprise raid raised him to national fame as his forces took zero casualties while inflicting 480 on Union troops, whom survivors who were left behind were well treated by Smith, earning him respect from the former soldiers who had tried to kill him. When the troops returned home due to the Confederate garrison not having enough food to spare the captured, Smith sent them back and the soldiers convinced their superiors to not hurt him or launch another attack. He also discovered a Sergeant had tried to rape an escaped African slave, so he shot him in front of everyone. He made sure his troops were taken well care of and was very kind and caring, eventually earning diehard devotion from his troops. After participating in the final battle of the war, he could have been promoted to General but decided to return home to Florida and run for Governor. He was elected overwhelming due to his popularity, and after getting most of his main goals done in a year, he decided to run for an open Senate seat. He was elected overwhelmingly and has earned a reputation as being both a fighter for the common man, and became a bipartisan negotiater. He has decided to run for President kind of late, but he has decided to choose Postmaster General John Reagan of Texas as his running mate.
