A little shocked no one voted against Jack Markell.

I know he's relatively non-controversial, but I was expecting at least 5-10 Republicans to vote against him based on his past as a Democrat who served in elected office.

With voice votes, it's not so much that no one is opposed, it's just that no one cared enough to ask for a recorded vote.

I'd be curious to see who the no votes were against Rahm Emanuel. I wouldn't be shocked if some of the more progressive Senators, like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren were no votes here.

Rahm Emanuel got confirmed by the hilariously anemic margin of 48-21 as Ambassador to Japan, which is just about the worst cultural fit imaginable. It's like Cellucci as Ambassador to Canada, on steroids and bass-boosted. Japanese society values composure, patience, and in-group solidarity with the people in one's vicinity rather than with strangers with whom one shares some demographic or identity category. Has anyone, anywhere, ever, associated any of those values with the name "Rahm Emanuel"? I doubt it.

I don't know. Caroline Kennedy was a pretty bad fit too, and in hindsight probably should have been named Ambassador to Ireland or Ambassador to the Vatican instead.

It doesn't really matter very much anyway. All the relevant work is handled by permanent bureaucrats, civil servants, staff; this was just a way to compensate Obamaworld if I had to guess.

As the 117th Congress enters its second session, nominations lacking broad support for continued consideration have been sent back to the President and must be renominated. Committee markups will be repeated for such nominations.

An updated executive calendar is avaliable: https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/executive_calendar/xcalv.pdf
