It would definitely crush the Lib Dems though.

In my polling station there was a moderate queue, and the workers said it was higher than average so far (this was around 6pm).

Fun fact: One of my friends is a lesbian UKIP supporter. (She's been bullish about their chances. She'll be very disappointed.)

Young kippers are entirely atypical.

I'm guessing St Ives will be last because of the Isles of Scilly right?

I hope Ashdown eats his hat tomorrow, preferably on live television.

I think many of us are looking forward to it. ^^

Campbell also promised to eat his kilt.

As is Farage.

Murphy pledges to stay on and fight for a Holyrood seat next year. Don't really think his position is viable, but I imagine not many people want that poisoned chalice anymore.

The collapse of the liberals is more proof that Moderate Heroism is not a viable basis for a party. Seeing as a lot of Clegg's arguments were literally lifted from the Australian Democrats playbook, it is not surprising the party ended up confused and without a clear niche. The other strategy - coasting off local popularity simply could not work with a demoralised and broken activist base; and diminished funds.

What are some weird results people can find? I'm finding Isle of Wight pretty peculiar.

Lib Dems in 5th! Greens in 3rd! All odd.

I guess they could have withdrawn from government and continued to give confidence.

The trouble was abolishing tuition fees was pretty much the Lib Dem policy the man on the street knew in the previous decade. It would have been like UKIP voting for a rise in immigration or Labour voting to abolish the NHS.

Belfast South btw, elected the SDLP with 24.5 % of the vote. This is apparently the smallest winning share on record.

Fun Fact: the BNP have scored the second worst result in their history, and in the popular vote trail behind all the Northern Irish lot, the continuing Liberal Party, TuSC, the Cannabis party, Mebyon Kernow, Yorkshire First, Monster Ravings Loonies, both the Christian parties and People Before Profit. Their support to the nearest two significant figures is 0.0%.

When the UKIP candidates do racist things it's not their fault, merely part of the BBC liblabcon conspiracy.

The result in Hereford (LibDem MP 1997-2010 and a longtime target and local government base beforehand) is quite something... Con 52.6, UKIP 16.8, Labour 12.8, LDem 10.6, Green 7.2

That's minus 30.5 for the LibDems.

Sheffield Central:

Lab 55.0 (+13.7)
Green 15.8 (+12.1)
Con 11.1 (+1.0)
LD 9.7 (-31.2)
UKIP 7.5 (+5.9)

The Lib Dems were only 165 votes behind Labour in 2010.

Brent Central had a -35.8 fall for the Lib Dems and Edinburgh South -30.3.

If I ever become PM, I would force all election results to be counted at ward level for better maps.

Maybe they should go down the BQ route and make up an independence question so convoluted nobody could possibly understand it.

Part of the reason is very historical. Cornwall was historically religiously non-conforming and in the days the Tories were pretty much synonymous with the CofE, non-conformists (like Methodists) would vote Liberal. There was never a significant trade unionist movement, which meant that Labour could never really root itself.
