Romney spent three times the amount of money he raised last month

Romney raised $6.4 million in January (compared to $9.8 million in January 2008), while spending a whopping $18.7 million. Only 18 percent of his donors were small donors. His Super PAC raised $6.6 million, but spent $13.9 million.

His campaign spending is basically unsustainable. If he doesn't win Michigan, he'll be in deep trouble.

Of course he can just start donating unlimited amounts of money to himself. Though the optics of him literally using his own wealth to buy an election may not be super great.
