Apparently Truss is the one who has requested the meeting.

From the briefings it seems that Truss aides didn't know of the meeting until Brady was seen walking in. Lines such as "measuring the temperature of the party" are being put about. Coffey, meanwhile, would probably be the top choice for caretaker PM if that scenario arises.

It’s wild that they’ve called Brady in to do the whole “taking the temperature of the party” stuff, given that’s the Chief Whip’s role. Speaks to just how powerless the whips are after yesterday.

Personally, I think it’s very hard to see Coffey as caretaker, given her alleged role in the MP bullying incident last night (not to mention the stream of gaffes she’s made as Health Secretary).

In honour of our new status as Wet Italy after last night’s shenanigans.

The footage of the Cabinet trooping out of No. 10 en masse the other day was so similar to that scene with the faction going to meet Andreotti at the start of the film that I actually laughed.

Police escort vehicles now idling at the Downing Street back entrance, according the pool photographer. Same vehicles that escort the PM to the Palace. Things getting very febrile.

The human hand grenade calls a general election?

I’d assume a resignation is more likely - but I’m not even sure if the King is back in London yet. Who knows in this environment though…

Beat me to it. It’s a bruising editorial - definitely worth a read. It appears MPs were actively lied to, regarding the confidence vote. And it ends with this:
Quote
I made my views known to Sir Graham Brady earlier this week. The Prime Minister has shown breath-taking economic and political incompetence during her short tenure in office. It is not responsible for the party to allow her to remain in power. Not when her actions can have such detrimental consequences for our constituents.

So I add my small voice to the groundswell of others. Step aside, go, and let someone who is up to the task take on the great privilege and responsibility of leading our great country and party.
