Why the hate for lefties?

It's not a hatred for lefties. There are other left-leaning posters on here (i.e. New Frontier, Bagel23) who seem to be pretty decent, particularly the latter. The problem I have with these people is that they indulge in ad hominem attacks, are arrogant and overconfident, and have little respect for ideological viewpoints that are not the same as theirs. They are also hyper-partisan and flat out cruel.

I assume you are aware that I have zero tolerance for ad hominem attacks of posters, and will infract any such post that contains such on boards that I moderate. I will do so, even if there is merit to the attack. Attack the content of a post, not the poster. Being offensive about expressing a point of view or vicious attacks on public figures is another matter. That comes with engaging in the public square. Anyway, if you report a post with an ad hominem attack on a poster, I promise you that I shall act on it, and act on it promptly. And it is my perception that such attacks are waning here, precisely because such a hard line position is taken on this matter, by me and some others in the Cave.

That is fine. And thank you for that. I have reported offensive posts made by several people over time, and I will do so again if it is necessary. I believe that this place should be a civil forum for debate, and such attacks discourage many of the people who post here.

I wouldn't ban any of them, but these guys are, by and large, the ones who have expressed the most personal animosity toward me.  (Ghost of Ruin excepted; he's "out there", but it's not personal with him as it is with the others, who are often nasty in a way he's not.)  I'd add Invisible Obama to that list.  But I wouldn't ban any of them; indeed, I don't have any of them on ignore (and some of them have disparaged me quite explicitly and emphatically).  This is Atlas; not everyone likes you or I here.

I understand that, but these people go way over the line in their attacks. I wouldn't have any problem with them if they criticized my ideology or my opinions in a polite and civil manner. Instead, they tend to take things personally, and launch nasty, vicious attacks against me. Such attacks, when they involve insults, profanity, and ad hominem attacks, causes a considerable amount of trouble, generating most of the reported posts and the moderation actions. I converse with people on both sides of the spectrum, and get along with people on both sides. When you attack someone, instead of having an intellectual debate with them, that makes it less likely that they will pay any heed to what you say in the future.

The fact that you b!tch about ad hominem attacks and hyper-partisanship and then cite Bagel as an example of a "decent" poster tells me all I need to know about your intelligence. You might recall Bagel hoped that a hurricane would hit Republican-heavy Southwest Florida instead purely for political reasons and also has on multiple occasions advocated for Democrats nominating racist whites in the South because for some reason he thinks they would have more success there. Also not listing any Republicans on the site who engage in ad hominem attacks on the regular (Badger, myself, singltxguy, Sanchez, etc) shows just how #moderate you are.

Jeppe for misandry and trolling, omegascarlet for pro-rape posts, lesbian bashing and for inflicting on the forum the most brain killing and moronic pile of scrap "article" that's ever been posted here, TimTurner for general spam (he's the only poster I have on ignore on AAD), Calthrania for humorlessness and inflicting texarkana's garbage on us.

Your problems with me seem to be centered around my strong objections to the ad hominem attacks directed against me (and others on here), by other users, and my desire for more civil, cordial debate. As for TexArkana, that was one map which I posted (I assume that you were the one who reported my post of the Virginia map). I gained permission to post it and did so in accordance with the discussions that had been conducted about what Tim Kaine's victory might look like in November. Also, I wasn't aware of the rule that posting such content by banned users was forbidden here.

I have had little, if any contact, with you, so I don't know why you decided to target me and to place me on your list of people that you would ban. But since you are of this opinion, I will refrain from interacting with you from this point forward, and will place you on my ignore list to avoid further confrontation.

Wow this thread is passive aggressive and petty. IMO the only bannable offenses should be doxxing, explicit hate speech and child pornography. If you're that confident in the strength of your ideals, there shouldn't be a reason to silence your ideological opponents.

Rather than aggressive and petty, I think the thread itself is informative, inasmuch as it gives us insight into what people are thinking. I agree that some of the comments in this thread do not tend to promote constructive engagement with each other over ideas.

I agree 100% with the rest of your comment (unless there's really, really something that I'm missing). In particular, I would not ban Beet or Calthrina950; I think Calthrina950 in particular is one of the most thoughtful posters on here, which is particularly impressive given his age.

Perhaps my view of some of the posts in this thread is overly cynical, or my interpretation of too many posts is incorrect and/or out of line with the poster's intent. I'm reading a decent number of these here as an indirect attack on posters that have recently irritated another and, frankly, that isn't reason enough to call for a ban. Nor is most of the things that result in "Ban XYZ poster" threads, but I digress. Agree on Calth. Really quality poster and seems like a genuinely pleasant person.

I thank both of you for the compliments. You two are also very substantive posters, and I enjoy reading your posts.
