No, because it has very little to do with why Obama is taking criticism over this. Do you really not get it?
He's being paid to entertain, not to be a yesman. Celebrities were offered millions of dollars to attend the President of Chechnya's birthday party, who is rounding up gay men to send to concentration camps. Obama doesn't have to tell the people attending what they want to hear. We never passed any law stating that it's illegal to get rich or to speak at Wall Street firms. If Obama were running for office again, there would be reason for criticism and he would be expected to disclose those speeches just like Clinton was, but he's out of electoral politics now. News flash: former presidents are allowed to give speeches and make money. Why should the first black president be the first president to say, "Nah I'm good?" The people he's speaking to could afford to be paying him a lot more.
I am not an Obama lackey and I am certainly not denying that Obama leaves behind a shoddy legacy with respect to Wall Street among plenty of other things, but a
speech has nothing to do with that. If what Obama is doing is wrong morally for what ever reason, then it is also wrong for other former presidents to make speeches at these places after they've left office - speeches which have no effect on public policy.
