Well?

FC for me. I   love Staten Island. Best place in the whole world. It was my one piece of heaven away from the world.

 I lived there for 3 years or so  ( Dec 30th 2005-November 1th 2008)

Considering the battiness of NYC in general, I'm going to have to say FC.

I'll still say FC but I don't know what I was thinking when I thought Staten Island would be almost perfect for me. Sorry, Paul (who I'm sure will end up posting here), but Staten Island really does seem like the base for Italian American stereotypes.  Tongue

You know you want the frosted hair, wife beater, and big gold chain with the short, loud, and very tanned Guida girlfriend.  Just admit it Phil. Tongue

Garibaldi and Meucci would beg to differ. Cheesy

Frosted hair??  I can honestly say I've never known any guy with frosted hair.  And we don't call it a "wifebeater" here.  It's called a "ginny tee".  Grin

From what I've heard/read, it seems like a truly terrible place.

Ehhh... Forsyth County, GA is probably worse. I can't think of anywhere else, though; maybe a Dallas exurban county.

Anyone county where everyone isn't a brainwashed Calvinist cultist is better than Sioux County, IA.

When people who have never been to New Jersey describe it, Staten Island is what they're actually describing.  So I'm a little annoyed, but it's all good.

The Irish and Italians in North Jersey (near NYC) and Staten Island are basically the same (politics aside).

Not the Irish. The Italians, maybe, but not really compared to Italians elsewhere in NJ. The similarities are much stronger between the Jersey Shore and SI than between North Jersey and SI.

Yeah, it's Staten Island and the shore that are the same.  That's because it's mostly people from New York and Pennsylvania at the quintessential "guido beach".

That might be the case with the North Jersey shore but not in South Jersey.

Staten Island is the home to most of the conservatives in New York. And the most ocnservative county in NY. And the only GOP-Leaning part of NYC.

On Staten, "wifebeater" is what you call your neighbor, not the shirt he's wearing. Though not to his face, obviously.

People from Staten Island are almost nothing like people from Jersey.

How do you figure?

I always figured kids who actually live near the Shore to be kind of mop-top Abercrombie kind of kids, while kids from North Jersey were the spikey-har club kid types.  I find myself in company of different people from around the NY metro area, and I've always found kids from NJ, Westchester, and Long Island almost indiscernable.  Whereas the same holds for kids from SI, Bklyn, Bx, Queens.  At least that's what I've noticed.  For example, if I talk to a girl from NJ in a club, the first thing she'll as me is "Are you from Staten Island or Brooklyn?"

None of those sentences are correct.

Suburban NY brings out the worst in people. But if I had to rate it, Westchester > Queens > Kings > New York >> Bronx > Richmond >>> Long Island
