His sexual orientation has been an open secret for roughly his entire career. What he's doing here by coming out is creating a distraction—trying to make the headlines in this story about something else. This is an extraordinarily selfish move, because he revives the old homophobic trope of gays preying on children, and conflates sexuality with sexual assault.

Honestly this isn't surprising. Something about him always struck me as off (and no, it wasn't anything about being gay), but it was hard to tell what it was. To be come on to at that age is quite frightening. A church soloist made some weird advance toward me under the guise of praying when I was 13 and it felt terrible.
