Well, Kennedy only won by like six votes.
Kennedy was much better-looking, inspiring, and smart-sounding than Rubio.  Kennedy dived into the weeds and got specific.  He made big promises.  He wrote "Profiles in Courage" which made him the authority on political courage.
Rubio's father was a bartender.

One possible difference: Did Rubio serve in the military?
If he did, add that to the list.  At one time, military service was viewed as a plus for a candidate.  Nowadays people view it as a detriment, sadly.

Yeah I forgot about that, Kennedy was also widely seen as a national hero because of his unbelievably courageous story from when he served.
