If California wants to leave they should be allowed to leave. So should any other State or States that want to leave.

No!
To secede over one election is so idiotic.  Then they'll want to come back in when the Democrats are back in power.

I have a feeling that if California seceded that they would wind up one of the States of Mexico.

California has a larger GDP than Mexico.

I wonder what the effect on the US economy would be if California seceded?

Probably worse than anyone can imagine.  The U.S. wouldn't be a leader in hi-tech (there are a lot of hi tech companies based in Seattle, Boston, Austin and a few other cities, but the vast majority is in the Bay Area).  The entertainment industry would be greatly affected (movies are one of the main exports of the U.S. economy).  Agriculture too, since California is a large producer.  Also, California is America's link to the Pacific, which means that trade with Asian countries would be affected as well, so say goodbye to cheap cellphones.  I'm betting that if California leaves the U.S., Hawaii would follow.

Alaska could leave also and maybe join Canada sometime in the future in that scenario.

I've toyed with the idea that CA, WA, and OR (comprising all counties -- if the Republicans living in the arid parts of those states don't like, let them move to ID) joining Canada in a Free Trade Confederation/military cooperative so that Pacifica (or whatever you wish to call it) can benefit from Canada's exposure to the Atlantic, at the same time denying the Rump US any access to the Pacific.

All US secession movements are presently little more than wishful thinking. But what you're talking about isn't coming from nowhere:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascadia_(independence_movement)

Give us a few years of Worst Trump, especially if he disappoints all his right-wing supporters inland, and Cascadia might become a real thing.

It very well could happen also if the Electoral College is ended and the Northeast and West Coast Elects every President and everyone else's vote becomes pretty much worthless.
