Hillary beats Cruz, Jeb!,  and Carson. Bernie beats Jeb!, Carson, and Trump, and would have a 50/50 shot against Cruz. Both would lose to Rubio or Kasich, and Kasich is the only one with the potential to outdo Trump electorally.

Of course not. I don't know where this meme that 2016 was always going to be a great Republican year came from. By any historical standard the structural factors should have been a wash (Obama fatigue+sudden worsening of race relations vs. okayish economy+muh demographics). It wasn't even inevitable that Trump would beat Clinton, not by a long shot; we're just living in the one out of every three or four universes in which he did.

I basically agree with this. 2016 to me was the epitome of a wash election if you go solely by the fundamentals.
