How many people in the CSU will regret not going for Soder?

It struck me at the time as one of those baffling decisions that parties make for purely internal/petty/factional reasons- even back in March Laschet was hardly a strong choice.

A stupid question (this is only the second German election I've followed closely)

What are the chances of a grand coalition between the SDP/CDU with the SDP taking the Chancellorship?

When did Die linke manage to shed the baggage of being the legacy party of the SED?

It feels strange for them to be in a coalition and I wondered how much of a resistance there would be?

Of course using the Wahl O Mat I got 84% for the Greens, 73% for Die Linke & 71% for the SDP.

I think it's coming from the weird part of the Labour party which is generally very pro-migrant, quite radical on the environment but equally relatively anti-Russia & China on foreign policy.

Getting ahead of myself but I assume even if the CDU have 1 more seat than the SDP they’ll get the first stab at a coalition? And will on the balance be likely to get one?

Reminds me of 2005 when a ruling party that has been around for a while (in that case SPD)  and was expected to be soundly beaten comes back and beat the pre-election polls into a virtual tie its main opponent.

until what July the CDU were clear favourites though?

The last two months have made people forget that the SDP were written off for dead and expected to come third as late as this summer.

Can people please not import their political ideologies into this thread please?

And if you’ve never taken an interest in German politics please, like me, come to this thread to learn, rather than make a fool of yourself.
