McCaskill is the kind of Democrat that serious Democrats ought to be thinking about if they are, indeed, serious about defeating Trump. She has the potential of expanding the map, she is experienced, she has a record that is liberal without being avant garde, and she has some appeal to the WWC voters who the Democrats need in order to recapture lost ground in 2016. And while she's won in unusually favorable circumstances, she's still won in a state that's trending Republican in every way, but which has the capacity to trend toward Democrats if only they could get part of their act together.
I keep hearing Democrats go on and on about how Trump is this National Disaster of Unparalleled Proportions. If he is, than why are some arguing about whether or not so-and-so is sufficiently "progressive"? If Trump's THAT BAD, aren't we beyond that? Isn't it time for a unity ticket that can win as big as possible? I mean, if we've actually elected the Antichrist, why would we quibble about trivial things such as the Keystone Pipeline vote or whether or not someone was Janie-Come-Lately on SSM? Aren't those things trivial compared to the Trumpageddon we are now facing? Let's fish or cut bait here. If Trump's THAT BAD, Democrats focusing on the most electable candidate might actually be the patriotic thing, even if there may be some tut-tutting from the farthest left.
