I think this would be an interesting race.

I would actually vote the Democrat ticket.  I like both men, as well as I like both candidates in the GOP ticket.  I could see either ticket winning and I would be happy with either ticket.

You're right, it would be a very interesting race.

Depends on the state of the Economy.  In a weak economy w/ high unemployment rate, Edwards would be a very, very strong candidate.  If the Economy is good or even OK, Edwards would be in trouble.

Switch Edwards with Warner or Bayh and I could see this ticket winning, but Edwards will be an afterthought by 2008. He will be the Lieberman of the 2008 race, but weaker because he will have spent four years doing nothing noticable.

That is unless Edwards successfully challenges and takes Elizabeth Dole's Senate Seat in 2006, then it would only have been 2 years doing nothing noticeable and those would be the first 2 years rather than the latter 2 years.

NC has no US Senate race in 2006 (unless there's a sudden vacancy). Dole is up in 2008.

I stand corrected.  Thanks jfern.  Then Edwards will have to choose between the NC Senate or the Presidency.

If he did decide to run for Senate in 2008, then he would have a better shot at the 2012 or 2016 Presidential race.

I'm not crazy about him but I chose Biden and Dole because they are kind of old guard politicians, while Edwards and Santorum, while not really that young, kind of come across as such, a new generation with the old generation as veep, guiding and helping to make deals with the establishment.

Edwards brought nothing to the Dem ticket in 2004, nothing!

How many more times do we have to listen to him telling us how hard it was growing up and how hard his father had to work to make ends meet, and how he had to struggle to get an education and make something of himself.

He's not the only person in America who had to work hard to get ahead.

Edwards would be a terrible candidate.  He is a total lightweight.  There is no way the Dems would nominate him, and if they did, he would be soundly defeated in the election.

Edwards wouldn't be stupid enough to challenge Dole though if it turned into an open seat, I could see him going for it. I really see no reason for him to run for Senate as it surely won't further his presidential aspirations as much as replacing Easley would.

There's about as high of a chance of that happening as there would be for me to become the next Governor of Arizona.

Edwards is all fluff.  I choose Santorum just because of Dole.  Smiley  Other wise, i wouldn't have voted for any of them.  Smiley

What's the point in Biden? He adds nothing to the ticket, he'll never be on any ticket except at the top which is also very unlikely since he's already had his shot and he blew it. He'll just continue serving as Senator-For-Life.

i'd like to start by saying that if either of these tickets would ever win a national election, I would most likely kill myself. The thought of either Edwards or Santorum running the country scares the hell out of me. If there is a better ticket, i guess its Edwards/Biden, but overall, they both pretty much suck. Tongue

As things stand right now, neither Edwards or Santorum have a shot in hell in 2008.  Edwards is already a has-been, and Santorum will be too if 2006 doesn't go his way.
