Vanderbilt STUNS Kentucky on Senior Night in Lexington, 68-66.  Kentucky had a good look at a 3 at the buzzer to win, but it was way off.

The Mississippi State-Vanderbilt game Saturday is such a huge one for both teams.

Hopefully we get the same result as the 2021 College World Series, or the GSROAT (2018).

True.  And they're not even the worst power conference team this year!  Louisville, Cal, and maybe Minnesota are worse than the Hoyas.  (And if you count the AAC as a power conference, Tulsa is the worst of them all.)  It seems like there's an unusual number of truly awful teams this year.

Speaking of Minnesota...they trailed Rutgers by 10 with 1:15 left but won with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer, 75-74.  That's a terrible loss for Rutgers, which may be awfully close to the cut line now.

Illini beat Michigan in 2OT 91-87, thereby helping their seeding chances in the Big Dance.

Iowa State, West Virginia and Auburn all lock up places in the NCAA Tournament field with victories over ranked opponents.

Iowa State defeats #7 Baylor 73-58.

West Virginia defeats #11 Kansas State 89-81.

Auburn defeats #12 Tennessee 79-70.

#2 Alabama and #3 Kansas both lost today on the road to the second-place teams in their conferences (Texas A&M and Texas).  This might be a bad omen for #1 Houston, which plays at Memphis tomorrow.

North Carolina loses to Duke 62-57 and now probably needs a run to the ACC tournament championship game (at least) in order to make the NCAA tournament.

There's no way the NCAA would let a football team force the teams to line up in the end zone, or a baseball team put the dugouts in the outfield. Letting Vanderbilt basketball put benches along the ends instead of the sides is ridiculous. It's not like there's not enough room on the sides - there's actual way more than typical.

The extra side area is due to the strange raised court, isn't it?  A safety measure to keep players from running off the edge.

I agree the design is terrible, but at least the coaches are allowed to come up the sidelines to the regular coaching box limit.

I don't know if it's technically a safety thing, but the Vanderbilt cheerleaders are sitting along the sidelines where chairs for the players could be. There's way more distance between the side line and the dropoff there than any other SEC arena has between the sidelines and the first row of seats.

In case anyone had any doubt just how stacked the Big Twelve was, #22 TCU lost to last place Oklahoma, 74-60.

I only went to two games this season. Kyle Neptune is clearly not equipped to be a head coach of a basketball program. It's not just the results - it's the entire demeanor and decision-making. He reminds me of my most recent suit salesman rather than someone who should be in a leadership role. Totally out of his depth in this arena - I've never seen such uninspired and tactically unsound basketball (although at least some of the fundamentals are there, if only due to the experience of returning players which may or may not be a problem going forward).

I was so fortunate to have watched a decade of players diving for and winning every loose ball, moving without the ball to create offense. What a grind to suffer through a game where the players are hesitant and don't seem to want to be there. Defense was not always there but it never had so many obvious holes that the opponent can get an open shot every possession at will.

Fordham did better without him and will have the A-10 coach of the year.

Perhaps he will learn - I ought to hope I'm wrong. The school will probably give him another four years. The fan base already has not afforded him that goodwill given the arena was easily less than half full on a Saturday night to face a top 10 team with an NCAA berth on the line.

Should have hired Baker Dunleavy. Maybe he will win a MAAC championship in the meantime to bolster his credentials while Villanova oscillates between sixth and ninth in the Big East conference. Dark days ahead unless Jay steps in to offer advice on the art of the comeback.

Mississippi State's still alive in my opinion, though they probably need to beat one of Alabama/Tennessee/Kentucky in the SEC Tournament.

Their resume is similar to North Carolina's just in a stronger conference than the Tar Heels.

Assuming we get by Florida on Thursday (a team we already lost to at home Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes) we'll get Alabama on Friday. I agree winning that one probably gets us in, but a loss and I suspect we're a 1 seed in the NIT, or maybe one of the play-ins if there aren't any bid-stealers or good runs from other bubble teams.
