Lib Dems make their first gain of the night - Fulwell in Sunderland from the Tories.

The Lib-dems won it in 2022, but this was once one of the few wards where the Tories won pre-brexit. Huge swing to them and a 10% drop in Labour vote, so tactical voting perhaps...

Labour have gained Washington South in Sunderland. As befits a ward that voted Green in 2019 on an incredibly fractured vote, it had actually swung Tory from last year and Labour were only 100 votes off losing it to them.

First result from Stoke has seen a massive swing directly from Conservative to Labour. However, I must warn our international posters that Stoke is/was a psephological word for ‘batsh**t local politics” so don’t read too much into it yet.

Why is Sky just reporting 2 Labour, 1 Tory council results, while BBC has Labour already at 5-1?

Is it different sources to get the results?

West Park in South Tyneside is the first Green gain (from Labour) of the night, I think.

It's no change; 9 Con, 1 Lab; council 27 Con, 3 Lab.

Seems Sky only declares results once all wards have reported in a council area.

Still early, but Labour isn’t doing too well vs minor parties/independents in councils they control so far. Compared to last year, they’re largely static or seeing swings against them.

Tories doing well in the Cotswolds so far, but nothing has flipped yet and comtrol probably won’t change (it was a very unpopular Tory run council in 2019).

Labour also gained Ryhope in Sunderland, the other seat UKIP won in 2019. Sunderland is basically therefore done, topline is Tories fall, Lib-Dems hold, Labour gains, but the majorities from last time were a bit too large for mass flips.

Speculation abounds that the Tories are doing badly in Windsor & Maidenhead. Has been briefed to journalists, and without saying too much, I know a guy at the count who’s been implying the same.

Tories gain a seat in Harlow overall, so that has to be a bummer for Labour, even though they were defending the lions share of the seats. However, I think their vote share went up across the council and of course won the vote overall.

First Hartlepool seat I believe is a labour gain.

Labour net 3 seats in reddich with 3 more to declare.

Could be one of the totemic wins of the night, given recent history.

I noted in my big preview that local Labour were campaigning specifically with the goal of a majority - seemingly very hard to get with the numbers up but it was repeated in multiple articles...
