He's a murderous freaking tyrant whose actions against peaceful protesters led to this whole mess in the first place, so yes. Though if I could arrange a situation where the death of Assad "inspires" the various sides to at least have a grudging peace (since there's likely no figure strong enough on either rebel or regime side to take over the country after Assad's death), then that would be preferable.

But there's no reason to think that his replacement would be 'better'.  (aside from the fact its none of our business).

Yes.

He would use his trial as a political tribune.
He has a right to say what he wants at his trial, no matter how wrong it may be.

Of course, that's why I think to avoid a trial would be the better option in this specific case (but clearly not the fairest one).

Don't forget that Assad is a skilled politician, letting him justify the use of chemical weapons could be very dangerous for the future.

It'd be quite hard to be worse at this point, really. Especially since I suspect that a large portion of Syrians will be weary of fighting and know that slaughtering their own people AFTER Assad is toppled will just lead to more fighting.

A large portion of Syrians are already weary of fighting. It's that portion of those who aren't you have to worry about.

No.  His brother and likely successor is more evil.
