I'm actually quite curious why exactly so many people here think "public schooling is best thing since sliced bread".

Equality of opportunity and the promotion of meritocracy.

Yes that wasn't what BRTD would say. Wink

I do admit though Meritocracy is one of the best things but the school system present (Equality of opportunity though is dubious); even if it isn't the sort of meritocracy I would be in favour of (too much focus on examinations for one thing.)

I would say somewhat the same if you define by what is meant by "public"; a large function of schooling as it is after all is to make one be "trained" into the society you live in (This is pretty much an undeniable fact).

I've never said that I think no child should be barred from access to education; especially if said child happens to be among lower income bracket families.
