Given the 2015 statewide elections are only an election cycle away, I have to ask:

How is the state legislature looking, especially in the wake of GOP redistricting a couple of years ago or so?

Here is the current makeup:

House

Republicans: 67
Democrats: 55

Senate

Republicans: 32
Democrats: 20

gespb19-

If you had to guess, what would be the partisan makeup be of both Mississippi chambers come next January, compared with what we have now? I presume that Republicans are going to expand their majorities -the question is by how much.

Speaker Gunn just said that the confederate emblem on the MS flag should be removed. He has no opposition, but wonder if any other GOPers will come out and say something similar.

Maybe they can use this opportunity to completely redesign that flag -and I don't just mean removing the Confederate battle flag, but to get rid of the current design altogether.

Perhaps they can find some way to incorporate the cotton bolls of the state seal, along with the state motto:

As well as the magnolia tree of the original state flag.

How is it looking in the legislature?  Will the GOP win over 70 seats in the House?  How many seats are they projected to gain in the Senate?

Looks like this is going to be the new make-up of the Mississippi legislature:

House:

Republicans: 74
Democrats: 48

Senate:

Republicans: 32
Democrats: 20

So that means essentially no net change in the Mississippi Senate?

House:

Republicans: 74
Democrats: 48

Senate:

Republicans: 32
Democrats: 20

So the House is now officially 74R:48D, correct?
