The classic Libertarian Argument to Pretty Much Everything™

"If you don't like not being able to run a mail order business because of federal laws to prevent evasion of taxes and sales to underage smokers, then you can easily just move your tribe somewhere else and do business there."

Why try to change things in a democratic society when you can just use your apparently unlimited financial resources to react and move every time someone does something you don't like!  Vote with your pocketbook, because that's better and more important than your human dignity.

If I wish to engage in a voluntary transaction with a foreign or Indian seller, it's none of the U.S. federal regime's business what I choose to buy.

It's none of the US gov'ts business if your choose to buy say Stinger missles?

Please note who you are talking to. He almost certainly does believe that.

Let me get out the world's smallest violin for these death merchants.

Looks like this passed overwhelmingly, only 11 voted against it. Amazed the Republicans didn't continue with their standard worship of tobacco.

Michele Bachmann voted in favor of this bill.

Steve King voted Aye though.

So how come a picture of you isn't in your signature?

He didn't say tobacco, he said "what I choose to buy" meaning anything.

Nice try.

I guarantee that more people have a problem drinking heavily than socially smoking - and the judging goes on a lot more on smokers.

Of course, because if they do it around me I have to smell that disgusting sh!t. It doesn't bother me any if someone gets wasted in their home. Things have gotten much nicer in Minnesota now that smoking is not allowed in any public building.

I remember when I lived in Mankato prior to the statewide ban but when the city ban was coming up and the owner of a local bar actually SUPPORTED it and then later stated it hadn't hurt his business at all after passing. I do wonder what Libertas would think of that guy.

I don't think I'm getting my point across, but this is more something I've observed in my life - so maybe it's one of those "had to be there" kind of things.

When have I ever called for banning tobacco? I just support banning its use in public.

Well Johnny Reb did, and it wouldn't be surprising if BRTD does support banning tobacco.

I don't. I just want it completely banned in public, including on the streets. No person should ever have to breath tobacco smoke under any circumstances whatsoever if they do not wish to do so. I also support extremely high taxes on it (like in NYC), restrictions on sales like this, and like Sweden's example of a complete ban on tobacco advertising. I'd like to take it to the point where stores that sell tobacco aren't even permitted to advertise this, basically there is no way to find out if they do or not besides going in and asking. Meanwhile marijuana can be freely sold and advertised.

Uh huh, and why should smokeless tobacco face such burdens?

You can use smokeless tobacco in places covered under smoking bans.

It's affected by this "PACT Act" which you are so supportive of.

Yes because without such restrictions it is easy to be obtained by minors.

Yes because without such restrictions it is easy to be obtained by minors.

And now it cannot be obtained by any American of any age, even if government age limits were justifiable in the first place (which they aren't).

Sure it can still be obtained, just at a store.

The whole business model of tobacco corporations is to hook customers while they're young. Almost 100% of adult smokers started underage. So here the restrictions are fair to prevent future adult smokers.

Sure it can still be obtained, just at a store.

Except when the stores don't carry what you previously were buying online...

Not to mention you're unfairly hurting internet-based businesses.

That's their choice, and the forbidden fruit effect plays a strong role in why so many choose to smoke.
