GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced Wednesday she will force a vote over House Speaker Mike Johnson’s ouster next week – a move that comes after Democrats have said they will vote to kill the effort and ensure Johnson doesn’t lose his job.

This just makes the fact that Democrats axed McCarthy look silly.

Why? It's a night and day difference in how he acted and Johnson did.

Yeah, though it's interesting Johnson was seen as more right-wing and pro-MAGA. McCarthy was just a shameless opportunist who didn't have a backbone (see his flip flopping January 6).

Johnson is still more right-wing and pro-MAGA, but there's a pre-ideological level of "cares about the country and doesn't want it to come apart at the seams to sate his ego" on which he beats McCarthy.

Johnson is pretty much guaranteed to be out as Speaker in 2025 anyway regardless of how House elections go. Actually curious if he'll just leave the House altogether ala McCarthy or try to return to being an anonymous backbencher which he may be able to actually do.

If Democrats help table the motion, what stops MTG from opening a new motion? And again? She could do it every week until November just to spite everyone.

The only way around that is a rules change, which is unlikely. Democrats will ask for a power sharing agreement and most Republicans won't allow it

The development comes after Greene and Johnson met on Tuesday afternoon -- their second meeting in as many days. The meetings came after Greene said she would force a vote to remove Johnson from the leadership post this week.

"I will tell you one thing I did say in there: I am so done with words," Greene told reporters on the House steps Tuesday afternoon after the meeting with Johnson. "For me, it is all about actions. And that is all the American people care about."

House votes to block Greene’s resolution to oust Johnson from speakership

The House voted quickly Wednesday evening to kill Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s resolution to oust Speaker Mike Johnson from his leadership post.

The vote on a motion to table succeeded with the help of Democrats, sparing Johnson from losing the speakership. The vote was 359 to 43.

In the wake of Johnson’s push to pass a major foreign aid package over the objections of hardline conservatives, House Democratic leadership announced that Democrats would help Johnson keep his job by voting to table.

House Republicans were completely caught off guard by Greene’s decision to trigger her motion, multiple Republican sources told CNN. GOP leadership did not see this coming and thought after the two productive meetings between Johnson and Greene that there was at least more time before any next steps were taken, the sources added.
