As long as they stay beyond the 12-mile limit, there ain't a lot we can do about it without being hypocrites, so militarily they ain't being stupid.  Politically ...

At least their destroyers are destroyer-sized instead of the cruiser-sized behemoths we call destroyers. Indeed, the new Zumwalt-class destroyers are so large that they would be classified as battleships under the interwar Washington and London Naval Treaties.

At least their destroyers are destroyer-sized instead of the cruiser-sized behemoths we call destroyers. Indeed, the new Zumwalt-class destroyers are so large that they would be classified as battleships under the interwar Washington and London Naval Treaties.

Er... the Iranian press may call it a destroyer, but most classifiers would deem them light frigates.

That's because destroyers have gotten so big, we needed to reuse the word frigate to describe ships that were once of the size called destroyers.

Er... the Iranian press may call it a destroyer, but most classifiers would deem them light frigates.

That's because destroyers have gotten so big, we needed to reuse the word frigate to describe ships that were once of the size called destroyers.

Lord only knows if we had gone through with the CGX, how big that really would have ended up. 

The last CG(X) design before the project was cancelled was 23,000 tons, in between the Des Moines- and Alaska-class cruisers of WWII in size.
