Which of these presidents is the best/least bad? I's basically from Van Buren to Johnson, with Lincoln and Polk excluded. Also excluded Harrison, because he just served for a month and didn't have much an impact at all.

I'd say Zachary Taylor, because he actually supported the Union, threatened to go after traitors and opposed an expansion of slavery.

I think people overrate MVB's post presidency sometimes - yes, he was abolitionism, but he was still unable to divorce himself from the Democratic Party - he supported Pierce, Buchanan and Douglas (this seemed partially as a result of revulsion towards the Know Nothings, but still).

It's all the way Taylor for me. One of the singular weirder presidencies in American history.

Also, Polk is the most overrated presidencies in US history.
