Don't forget your cards.  You have five, so you have to trade in a set.    (I'd do it for you automatically, but the difference in reinforcements may affect your strategic decisions.)

Can the game be won without Kansas?

Good question, and I have given it some thought.  Here's what the opening section of the 'Rules' in the first post have to say:

Welcome to a new game of 'RISK Domination'!  Six generals will battle it out to defeat their opponents and conquer the entire United States; using strategy, smarts, brute strength, and a healthy dose of 'risk'.

Therefore, I would say that the winner must have defeated all five rivals and conquered all fifty states.  Technically the Neutrals count as an opponent as well, I guess.

And once someone takes over the board they will kill KS

No. You overlooked the fine print. To win the game you have to defeat all five rivals and conquer all fifty states, but the game ends when you defeat the last rival. So if you've conquered 49 states while Kansas is still around, the game is over and nobody's won.

That's the rule I'd use to prevent a second Kansas, anyways.

No. You overlooked the fine print that says that once five people are eliminated, the neutrals will spawn like rabbits (5000 new units per round) and attack everywhere at once.

This is correct.  People really should pay attention to the fine print. *

I have visitors staying this weekend, so I've been a little preoccupied.  I'll get on this asap.

It looks like both Josh and The Mikado have designs on the Midwest, which should be interesting. TN2024 has his eyes set on New England, which is always a good idea, though he may be missing out by not taking advantage of his control of Old Virginia. Gustaf's masing his forces out west, while Verily is doing the same in the South. Meekermariner is hedging between the two, and'll probably get knocked out in both.
