Patriots because they're from the more liberal area.

and yet Falcons fans are probably more liberal.

Here's the quarterback you're cheering for:

Here's Trump reading an endorsement letter from the coach you're cheering for:

And here's the owner you're cheering for:

Patriots because they're from the more liberal area.

in addition to what SJoyce said above, the Patriots' stadium is in a suburban precinct that voted for Romney, whereas the Falcons' stadium is in a sea of Obama>80 and Obama>90 precincts

No, I would bet Falcons fans easily went for Trump.  Even the area of Falcons fandom likely was Trump, and you have to remember that sports fans- and especially football fans- are far more conservative than the population as a whole due to being mostly male and the fact that most hippies, hipsters, SJWs, and the like abhor sports and prefer theater or whatever.  In fact, I would bet that the fanbases of all 32 NFL teams, or at least very close to it, voted for Trump.

Exactly, except for the fact that the Atlanta Falcons have one of the most racially diverse fanbases in the entire NFL (important fact to leave out) while whites in the state are disproportionately drawn to the Dawgs* and while the Patriots draw white bandwagoners across upper class Americans in many geographic locations.

*The implication is not due to college attendance but rural culture making a number of fans care significantly less and are simply jumping on the state bandwagon after not caring for many months. Those fans do not count.

Does the name Tom Brady mean anything to you?

The team I have supported since I learned what "football" was, although in most matchups I would want the Patriots to lose anyway, so it's not like I'm conflicted.

Patriots because they're from the more liberal area.

Shamelessly copying what other people have said, this is a terrible way to pick sports teams when the two key people in the "liberal" team's dynasty endorsed Trump. Tongue

Also: will anyone who does not understand roman numerals/super bowl naming think this one--"Super Bowl LI"--is named after a Chinese person?

So I was inspired by this thread to try to figure out the rough political leanings of the different fan bases (although I agree that NFL fandom would probably skew Republican as a whole. So I'm plugging the votes of these county breakdowns for the different teams from 2014 into excel with the 2016 election results:

I'm working my way from West to East and here's what I have so far:

Raiders - D+38
49ers - D+28
Chargers - D+11
Seahawks - D+10
Cardinals - R+4
Broncos - R+11
Chiefs - R+25

The only problem is that the map is from 2014, so the Rams, Chargers, and Raiders were all still at their old locations. I have a lot more data, though, and some of the results are pretty interesting. For example, third parties did well enough in Broncos territory that trump didn't manage a majority of the vote, despite winning by 11 points. I might give this it's own thread at the end.

I have finally settled on rooting for the Patriots and the GOAT, but I certainly wouldn't hate to see Matt Ryan get a ring.

Makes me wonder how many NBA fanbases are majority Trump voters. I figure it would be the Thunder and maybe a plurality of Jazz fans.

Let me take a couple of guesses:

Bears D+13
Packers R+3
Lions R+1
Vikings R+1
Steelers R+9
