Is that technical language that they teach at the well-renowned Thomas Cooley Law School?

You can either complain about "ivory tower elites" or you can mock and disdain people for going to schools that are not difficult to get into.

You cannot do both.

I am a proud member of the ruling class and plan for my heirs to remain there into perpetuity. (And in spite of that I am literally the least elitist member of my own family but still pretty snobbish nonetheless.) Our class would never speak like this in public.

Can democrats stop trying to copy Trump?

It's the dumbest idea. Be professional.

Why would you copy Trump's behavior when his job approvals are far below his economic approval? Clearly the American electorate is upset at Trump's behavior even if his base loves him...

My god, liberals are the most bloodless people alive, moaning about someone using the "f word" while calling for something they otherwise support.

My guess is she was referencing Dan Savage's ITMFA campaign.

I agree with the sentiment, but the profanity was uncalled for.

I am the opposite—I like the passion, but I disagree on impeachment. The voters get what they voted for!

This. I don't see impeachment ending well, but it's damn nice to see a Democrat being feisty for once.

My pastor once said in a sermon "Some of our ideas of purity are really f**ked up."

If the word is OK for a woman preaching the Word of God to speak, why is beneath a Congresswoman?

Any Republican who says a single negative word about this and hasn't bashed Trump for his horrible, dirty and perverted mouth deserves to be roundhouse kicked in the face for hypocrisy. Period.

Congresswoman Tlaib was also sworn in on a copy of the Qu'ran owned by Thomas Jefferson.

Keith Ellison did that when he was first sworn in in 2007.

I am not surprised either by Tlaib's statement or by the responses of most Atlas posters on here. Just because Trump has said many objectionable and profane things, does not mean that other politicians should engage in the same behavior. And it's clear that even many in the Democratic caucus were uncomfortable with the language that she used. Unfortunately, any attempts to point this out will be dismissed as irrelevant.

But yeah, I don't think the word is an issue at all. I am skeptical that impeaching Trump is a wise strategy, but I'm open to being persuaded otherwise.

why are we acting like there's anything wrong with using curse words? just use them appropriately and sparingly. she said this as an exclamation to a private audience, totally appropriate. also we ain't puritans or children in front of our parents: using swear words is fine.

It's up to Republicans to decide that they must release some ballast -- that ballast being Donald Trump. Democrats do not have the votes  and will not have them until 2021 at the least.

The best thing for Democrats now is that Donald Trump be completely ineffective, but offensive -- and in everyone's view. The issues of the Senate race are already available, including votes to confirm "Barf" Kavanaugh.

That's not very professional language. No one in that position should be conducting themselves in such a manner. Same goes for Trump, acting this way isn't "cool" it just makes people in important positions that require professional behavior sound vulgar and low class.

Yeah, this isn't a frat party.

Of course it's not a frat party!  Brett Kavanaugh wasn't invited!

But it's NOT a frat party; that much is true.  And the tone of this proclamation brings to mind the angry, vicious behavior of corrupt representatives in the Parliaments of unstable democracies desiring to drive an elected President from office simply because they don't like him/her.  The rule of law ought to apply here, and it ought to apply all around.  This means that all parties ought to be concerned about the facts, and not just about their hatreds and desires for revenge.

If "democracy" ultimately "dies in darkness", I predict that Tlaib will be one of the folks with her fingerprints on the murder weapon.

In this case, it's a suggestion that the motivation by the speaker is pure vengeance.

I don't even support impeaching Trump at this point, but,

1. This is how normal people talk in real life. (except for Mormons)
2. This is probably how most of the people living in Tlaib's district feel.

My response to the outrage about this is the same as to those who were outraged over the name of a chicken sandwich: grow up, ya wusses.  More people should take a page from Dan Crenshaw's book.  Argue over the merits of impeaching or not impeaching Trump, not OOOH BAD WORDS.

No.
They teach it at the "well-renowned" school of Trump University.

So she went there too?

Oh please, you're from the party that literally had a man heckle the POTUS and call him a 'Liar' during his State of the Union. And that was PRE-TRUMP.

Save us your indignation.

"There are no Republicans willing to be civil anymore, I tell ya!"

*Republican tries to engage in being civil*

"SHUT UP, you're from a party that isn't civil, save it!"

This is how I feel about that, very nicely summed up;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVUhW5wg0lc&t=2s

More than a grain of Truth to that video. Still rather unfair to even buy an admittedly broad brush paint people who voted for Obama and were willing to give Trump a chance as racists.

God did weigh in on this.

The Apostle Paul was suffering far more persecution, as was the Church at Galatia, when this was written.

That people are foul mouthed in real life doesn't mean it's a virtue that should be displayed.  I was raised to believe the importance of showing your better self, of being self-controlled.  Nowadays, the buzzword is "Keeping it Real" or something like that.  For those who live by "Keeping it Real", they need to think that this ethic made our present President possible.
