The closest I've ever played to this game is Medieval II Total War. Should I attempt to play Crusader Kings?

Yes. Although it's just as much an RPG as it is a military strategy type game.

That's exactly what I want in a game.

Do you prefer the map or the battles in Medieval II? If the map, go for it, now. If the battles, maybe not, there's no similar battle mechanic in CK3.
