Palmer polled just under 1% nationally. New England wasn't the only area where he polled out of utter-fringe numbers (he took 3% in Alabama for example), but Atlas doesn't have county data for those states.

Palmer nearly beat Bryan in one Massachusetts county, iirc.

Yep; only one vote seperated the two on Nantucket

Christiansen part II

He also polled strongly in Allen county, IN (ie; Fort Wayne) and Webster county, IA (area is dependent on the Gypsum industry).

I want Ed Clark!

Also James Weaver in 1892 and Norman Thomas in 1932 would be interesting maps.

Hooray for Al!

Never! Tongue

Here's Ed Clark '80:

Note that he took 11% in Alaska (which doesn't do county data) and did well in a few other counties with small populations here and there.

Aww, it would appear Allen County used to be a relative hotbed of random progressive 3rd party movements Sad I wonder what happened.

*prods Al*

I'm still waiting for Andrews in 1956, and hell, if you have the data - Van Buren in 1848.

Hmm, county data from 1848 might be hard to come by.

Smiley

Seems to have done better in logging areas than in mining ones, interestingly.

If I recall correctly, looking at old Wisconsin election returns, the Finnish communites tended to vote Communist in large numbers.  There were elections where the Communist candidate for governor would get less than 2,000 votes statewide, but in a Finnish coummunity like the Town of Oulu in Bayfield County (the darker 3% one right in the middle of Wisconsin's Lake Superior shoreline), he'd get 150 votes and carry that precinct.  The results were very odd to look at to say the least.

Never, obviously. His map is interesting though. Despite him being chronically dull and all that.
