The main question I have is why Fudge even wanted to be Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in the first place.

She didn’t. She wanted Agriculture and she spoke publicly about how she thinks black Cabinet members are often shunted to HUD.

There’s a difference between giving people a second chance - which I do believe everyone is entitled to to some extent, even this man - and giving them a position in the local party.

Extrapolating this swing compared to the 2020 result suggests we are looking at something like a D+15 national environment.

I mean, the Republican nominee (effectively) went from the Dean of the House, who’d represented Alaska for over half the time it’s been a state, to a nationwide joke.

I find it really sad how not even 30k people in a district of over 800k people voted.

My understanding is that this was all scheduled and organized in basically a week.

There’ll be a special election in NJ-10 to fill deceased Rep. Donald Payne, Jr.’s seat. Primary is July 16, general September 18. Democratic candidates so far include Newark City Council president LaMonica McIver (Ras Baraka protege) and former East Orange councilor Brittany Claybrooks (erstwhile Kim campaign official).

NJ-10 filing deadline is over, here’s the list of candidates: https://newjerseyglobe.com/congress/heres-who-filed-in-the-special-election-primary-to-replace-donald-payne-jr/

Frontrunner is definitely McIver as she has the Essex County party’s endorsement, but it’s not over til it’s over!
