I have nothing against Schiff, I think he's great, but I prefer Porter. Nevertheless, this primary is going to become one of those proxy establishment vs. progressives primaries and it's going to suck.

BREAKING: Adam Schiff officially in

Endorsed.

It's funny nobody cares to wait for DiFi's "announcement" of her plans.

There’s a decent chance DiFi doesn’t live to make her “announcement”

I was thinking this but didn't want to say it...

I prefer someone younger than Lee, but she would be my second preference if I lived in CA. Katie Porter is still my #1, but I actually have no complaints towards any of the major declared candidates.

Didn’t Feinstein previously state she was going to announce her plans next year? If that’s true the fact she has expedited the timeline makes me wonder why.

Because three incredible high profile Congresspeople are running to replace her and they're not going to delay their campaigns to wait for her.

Lee is also including endorsements from Dolores Huerta and Cedric Richmond, among others. Quite an interesting cross-section of ideologies, and a good mix of both establishment and outsider types. She may be able to coalesce enough support by being a black woman running in a field of (presumably) mostly white folks. Schiff, Porter, and Lee may not differ a ton ideologically, but the racial divide is probably going to play out in the results.

Yes, we all know how much Republicans love Dianne Feinstein in particular and hate misogyny in general.

Slightly misleading. Those numbers are after "positive" candidate biographies were presented. Here are the numbers prior to that info:

Early - 27%
Porter - 24%
Schiff - 21%
Lee - 11% (!!!)
Other/undecided - 17%

Those other numbers, coupled with the fact that this is a Lee internal, lead me to believe that the campaign is pretty desperate to spin this result as a positive, despite the fact that even a 9 point swing doesn't even get her out of 4th place.

Then again, this is just one poll.

The real argument to be made is that Schiff and Porter are at their ceilings whereas Lee has actual room to gain. A candidate's vote share not moving after bios is genuinely a very bad sign, as the post-bio vote tends to be the most predictive of the actual final outcome (this is all relative though, polls are of course only snapshots in time).

What are you, some kind of poll expert or something? Wink

A plurality wants DiFi to step down early.

I wonder if Nancy Pelosi thinks 52% of California Democrats are misogynists.

She isn’t making that statement out of personal beliefs; she’s using it as a cover for Feinstein to stay on in order to increase the chances of her preferred candidate (Schiff) winning the upcoming election.

Yeah but one would have to imply the other, right? She would never say the quiet part loud is what I'm saying.

This reads like a middle school teacher trying to relate to his students.

I wonder if Newsom discussed a potential appointment with DiFi, like if she had a preferred successor.

Newsom pledged to appoint a Black woman, but Barbara Lee won't get the nod because she's currently in the Senate race, so who would that leave?

-London Breed
-Malia Cohen
-Sydney Kamlager-Dove
-Karen Bass
-Kamala Harris
-Lola Smallwood-Cuevas
-Shirley Weber

bruh

That would probably be the funniest thing that could possibly happen

(1) Newsom appoints Kamala
(2) Biden appoints Newsom
(3) Biden resigns for "health reasons"

Trust the plan

I’m really disappointed in the way that Lee and her surrogates have treated a potential appointment. It was always clear that Newsom would not appoint a current candidate no matter who it was, and for Lee to treat that like it’s a race thing is lame. I prefer Porter but respect Lee a lot—both have done things to leave sour tastes in my mouth.

I honestly don’t think Butler runs for a full term (unless she has already said otherwise and I haven’t seen)—she strikes me more as a caretaker choice who will return to her work after her term with a much higher profile and even greater donor connections. If she does run for a full term, I would understand why but she strikes me more as an advocate than a legislator.

She made the right decision. I don't know about running against Kounalakis because she's been the heir apparent for years. She should at least move back to CA after her term expires lol

I really don't understand the vitriol towards Schiff. I preferred Porter, but I have no doubt that Schiff will vote virtually the same way on every single major bill that she would have. All of the 3 major Democratic candidates would've made great Senators.

The fallout from this primary has been so aggravating. Porter's rhetoric, the online left's insistence that Schiff is some centrist, just the general childish behavior of all involved...makes me really glad I don't live in CA.
