If Biden can keep the margin in Ohio close, even in a loss Democrats could pick up the State Supreme Court. Would be huge for redistricting.

No way the Ohio Supreme Court would allow only 2 seats for Democrats.

Commission has voted 5-2 (along partisan lines) to advance the Republican-proposed maps.

Surprise surprise, the Ohio Reform is powerless and useless.

4 year map here we come.

Probably will go to the Ohio Supreme Court first. Who knows what they'll think. There is an anti-gerrymandering majority there.

Unfortunately I can't find the tweet, but the Cleveland area districts are going to have to get cleaned up before the final map. The current maps crack the black community hard.

My guess is these maps get struck down by the state Supreme Court. Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor (R) really hates gerrymandering and has no problem bucking the Ohio Republican Party. The only question would be the timing it gets to the Ohio Supreme Court.

The commission missed the deadline.

Also Dewine suggests the maps are unconstitutional.

Tomorrow is the deadline for the Congressional map, right?

Who becomes vulnerable in the GOP if the OH Supreme Court rejects the GOP congressional maps and orders a fair redraw. I would guess we have something like 10-5 R with OH-1 as a Cincy D vote sink while OH-12 goes from red to leaning D along with OH-13 or 14 becoming a D leaning Cleveland suburbs seat.
Steve Chabot is most at risk, as always.
After that it's hard to tell. Balderson might be at risk if he ends up with a district with a big slice of Franklin. He won by 14% in 2020, and Delaware County continues to trend Democratic.

Balderson lives in Zanesville, so we could a different district that works for him.

Yeah, no way the Ohio State Supreme Court would approve this map.

The quicker this thing passes the quicker the OHSC can kill it.

Kaptur would have a shot in this 9th as Biden only lost by around 3-4 points. Biden won OH-13 by about 1-2 points.

These are still gerrymandered, but less so. I wonder what spooked them. I'd be interested to know what the #'s are in OH-15.

Saw on Twitter that OH-15 is Trump +5.

What was the last court appearance for, then, if not arguments?

If I remember correctly, that was for the legislative maps.

Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor basically writes a campaign add for amending the structure of the commission.

As expected, they cited proportionality in outcomes as part of the justification for ordering the redraw. Also stated it unduly splits Hamilton (Cincinatti Dem seat), Summit (akron Dem seat), and Cuyahoga (probably west county+Lorain Dem seat).

Franklin County is mentioned as well.
