i am not advocating this position im just posting this little bit to show that dry laws are exactly the type of social engineering 'progressives' need to avoid

disclaimer aside:

if youre going to have a single-payer health care system like how some democrats want it'd be in the state's interest to restrict unhealthy activities like drinking alcohol, smoking tobacco, engaging in risky sex, eating fatty/fried/sugary foods, eating red meat... if one were a liberal like the bulk of atlas's red avatars one could make a case for imposing dry laws nationwide again among other such laws

based on how scandanavian nations have _high_ rates of alcoholism one could make the case for outlawing the possession of alcohol in  upper midwest states like minnesota or north dakota and applying _harsh_ punishments based on health grounds..
