I'm pretty sure that RCV isn't in play here. If there are a lot of left-leaning independents on the ballot, LePage probably wins, particularly with Maine's rightward trend.

Didn't a state Supreme Court ruling overturn the use of RCV for state races, but it remains intact for federal races? Or am I completely misremembering.

it is. Wouldve been used in 2018 but mills got over 50%.
It’s only in play for gubernatorial primaries.

Does RCV apply to gubernatorial elections in Maine?  I know there was a change this year, but I thought it only expanded it to the presidential election.

I can't speak to this irrational actor's motivations (and his announcement didn't seem particularly serious or well thought out), but FPTP almost certainly is the biggest thing in his favor should he actually follow through on his threat to run.

Could SCOME overrule it’s previous decision and implement RCV. The only FPTP elections where I live are presidential and city.
