Hawaii has a very high cost of living, and most people have to work hard to earn a living. My relatives in Hawaii are Asian-Americans, and traditionally Democrat. My grandparents live in a small 1 story house where the rooms merge together.
I am not entirely sure. He either means a duplex style (where two, seperate houses are built in one structure,) or a studio style (where there is really only one big room with only a bathroom and storage closets being sealed off by doors.
