I would guess Schiff is probably lot more hated than Porter among Cali Republicans and that might probably be a deciding factor in general election if Schiff, Porter are top2 candidates in the primary

I honestly don't see much logic behind backing Barbara Lee over Porter...they are not that different ideologically and they both are gonna vote same 99.9% of the time. Porter is just lot more younger

yes...lets elect a 78 year old to a safe Dem Senate seat when there is a younger option of similar ideology and would vote the same 99%+ of the time...just zero logic.

comparing Biden's 2020 run with Barbara Lee's senate run is not an apt one...Dems didn't have many alternatives in 2020 and Biden was polling the best vs Trump among all possible Dem candidates. That's just not the case here...even worst possible Dem candidate will win the California Sen race.

Weren’t there 26 other candidates in the primary race? There were pretty clearly alternatives to Biden
there were maybe 4-5 out of those 26 who had realistic chance of winning the nomination and among those 5, Biden was polling the best vs Trump. The other options would have been underdogs in general election vs Trump

sucks that Lee entered the race...I was hoping Porter could win and have the seat for next 30+ years

Is that now impossible?
her chances have definitely taken a hit with Lee in the race. Would like to see a poll but wouldn't be surprised if she is in 3rd place

This is one of the main reasons I don't want Lee. She will be 78 by the time her Senate term starts. Why go for Lee and risk situations like this when you have a younger alternative who will vote the same as Lee 99%+ of the time ?

Why on earth can't Feinstein just resign when she is like 90 and her current health condition isn't good ?

If Feinstein would resign then Newsom will have appointed both California senators, the Attorney General, and the Secretary of State. That’s a lot of control/power for one person
I seriously don't care tbh...Newsom surely can find someone that he can appoint temporarily for 1 1/2 year. Feinstein's absence is holding up lot of judges appointments and after 2024, it might take a long time for Dems to even get an opportunity to appoint any new liberal judges
