She may run for reelection in a competitive state house seat, or potentially for Superintendent if the right flank of the party wants to take out Truitt, but her ability to win even primaries in them is doubtful. There are ambitious Republicans who would certainly line up for all of these and Cotham is likely to suffer from the party-switchers's syndrome of not being trusted.

The other factor is how deeply she's hated by North Carolina Democrats right now--among politically engaged people she's about as popular as Donald Trump. If she somehow scrapes through a primary, she'll have to deal with the fact that her opponent will be one of the best funded candidates in the entire state, a la the opponents of MTG or Mitch McConnell. And unfortunately for her, she'll likely be running in a competitive race, unless she manages to con her way into NC-08, which is the hardest jump for her imo.

I really wouldn't expect much more out of her other than maybe an embarrassing attempt at reelection in the House and then running the Zell Miller circuit of "the Democrat party left me."

I think she will run for the successor to Jeff Jackson's seat (NC-14), probably a very red seat that is unwinnable for Democrats.

Getting through the primary will be another story.
