I wonder how your football team would react...

Well, actually Ty is a football player (kicker) but still..... most would probably be ok with it upfront, but there would be problems, no doubt.

Oh, and thanks to everybody that's congratulated me. I know that this is just one step but it feels good to be able to confide myself in someone.

For some reason like half my friends here at MSU are LGBT (in fact, at least one of each, though one double-counts for G and T Tongue), and they seem to be finding plenty of resources if they need any.  Each group of residence halls has its own LGBT group, but you can go to any you want Smiley
Really? We don't even have a LGBT group on campus.

I don't think we do either, actually.

Interesting.  We have one at MSU, and they have one at Ole Miss too.

I just noticed my school is ranked ahead of yours now.

Hmm.

Congrats.. that definitely took some guts.

I imagine it's pretty hard to tell anybody, even somebody you know will be totally accepting and even honored to know, something that you've kept as such a secret for so long.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Congrats!

You should read the bible a little more.

I hardly think that's possible. My family is pretty hard-core Catholic. My Dad is a Eucharistic minister and my mom was the Parish Secretary for a long time. There's crucifixes everywhere in my house and their views are for the most part mine (look at my social score)

That's why I wonder if I'll ever be able to tell my parents. My dad is intensely homophobic, my moms more tolerant, but still...

If it makes you feel any better, I came out to my grandparents recently, my grandfather who was a pastor for around 40 years and both of whom are very active in the religious community. It caused some concern from them at first but everything is okay now. I'm their family and they know I'm a good person and thats all that matters.

Yeah, I know how that can be. When I came out to my parents as bisexual, my dad had a look on his face like he had just been punched in the stomach. Whenever I go back to North Dakota to visit my parents, they always seem awkward around me. But, I would rather have it that way then be in the closet all my life. I think thats how any LGBT person should think.

Just a general observation but there seem to be many more gays, bi's etc on this board as a percentage than in the general population.

It couldn't have been as vulgar as the original post.  That's just gross.

What was wrong with what MSU said?

As if reading the Bible more will make you not want to get down with guys...

I know a kid who is bisexual and goes to Church more than I do.  And I used to work for a gay guy who is a practicing Catholic and can quote from the Bible verbatim.

As for your parents, you might be surprised.  My mother goes to mass every morning, has statues of Mary all over the house, prays the Rosary in traffic, and hid scapulas in mine and my sisters' beds.  And my father is the type of guy who holds some type of prejudice against every person, place, or thing.  But a few months we were talking about gay marriage and they both had some fairly progressive views on it.  Of course, my parents are not your parents, and they weren't talking about the sexual orientation of their child, but it shows that religious devotion does not always evince homophobia.

Besides, maybe one day you'll decide you really like vagina and won't want to mess with guys anymore?  Then you wouldn't have to worry about telling your parents.

Anyways, there's my .02.  I wish you the best of luck and nothing but happiness.

Congrats MSU!! Smiley It must have been a big relief to finally be able to tell someone.

I still haven't come out to anyone yet. I highly doubt I'll ever tell my parents, either. My predicament is the opposite of yours. Tongue It's my mom who's the anti-gay right winger, and dad who is more understanding, but still very conservative and anti-gay.
