Polls have closed.

I feel pessimistic. This isn't based on accurate information, gut feeling or anything. Bah.

First BBC RESULTS!:

Labour: 5
Conservative: 4
Liberal Democrat: 1

166 councils to go!

Not results as such; just councils with majorities so large that they cannot fall, even if all defended seats are lost!

Shrewsbury results mixed. We didn't take back Monkmoor, but we held Sutton & Reabrook by a big margin.
BNP pushed Liberals into fourth in Harlescott (the ancient Tory with a huge personal vote won as always).

Tories keep control of SABC; they gained two Atcham RDC wards off retiring Indies.
No town wards switched.

LibDems doing badly in Norwich... Tories have actually done quite well, but the big winners are the Greens.

Tories hold Great Yarmouth... but Labour make strong gains.

Rumour is that Labour have held Manchester.

Labour have made gains in Manchester! Cheesy

Not sure which seats. But no Tories.

Labour have lost their majority in Stoke (net loss of two seats). Still hold the Mayoral seat o/c.

The picture is getting really, really mixed...

Labour have held Wigan; gained a seat as well. So we made gains in both the "symbolic" N.W councils Smiley

Labour are making good gains in Kashmiri areas; one of the Manc wards to fall to us was Longsight and we've taken Aston off the LibDems in Brum. And held Nechells with over 50%.

LibDems hold N.U.T; Labour lost one seat. A shame, but reports I heard a few days ago were rather grim so...

I always suspected that the Asian vote might swing back to Labour in Mets outside of London. Seems to be the case in Brum and Manc so far, at the same time no real impression of what’s happening in London yet though beyond rumour.

True; although note that Muslims in London tend to be Bangladeshis or Punjabis rather than Kashmiris (or Gujaratis).

Some good news for the LibDems; they've gained South Lakeland (basically Westmorland).
