Some good news for the LibDems; they've gained South Lakeland (basically Westmorland).

What were they on in the 1970's when they named these councils....

The naming was bad enough, but the councils themselves are worse Wink

Labour have made some decent gains in Liverpool and are once again the largest party in Bolton.

Labour's majority in Blackburn with Darwen is down to 0 (lost only 2 seats though). An unknown suspected far right party took two seats.

I know. It's actually noy unusual in council elections, but rarely does it determine council control.

Labour hold Sheffield... and made a gain as well. And so did the Greenies. More bad news for the LibDems...

The above is the change of wards. Ignore the key for the minute (I'll wait until morning before doing share maps), but the darker colours indicate pickups. (See this for previous incumbents).

There were some real suprises - the Cowley swap over surprised everyone in the hall (Cowley went from Lab to LD whilst Cowley Marsh went LD to Lab). Headington Hill and Northway was a nail-bitter and in the end the LDs came through the middle in our one three-way ward.

IWCA did quite well in the estates again (contrary to my expectations) picking up Northfield Brook, though were not able to pickup Blackbird Leys.

One of the Lib Dems I was talking to described the Council as the Israeli Knesset since nobody can ever get overall control. I would have to agree.

BNP were apparently declared the winner in one of the Kingstanding seats; wrongly. Labour won both... but the result can't be undeclared without a court thingy.

With any luck it'll be replecated at the General Eelction Smiley

Good result for Tories in Sutton, LibDem’s hang on but with their majority cut to ribbons (Labour’s tiny group wiped out).

BBC saying LibDem have taken back Richmond, while Kingston has been lost by the LibDems (didn’t say if it was to the Tories or NOC Huh ).

Not as bad as I'd as I expected Smiley thus far. The only spectacular Conservative council gain is Bassetlaw; though I'm surprised Crawley had been Labour since 1971

Labour has suffered losses but they were to be expected

I've been flicking between BBC and SKY

The only spectacular Conservative council gain is Bassetlaw;

It isn't actually; they made a load of fluke gains in 2004 making it very hard to lose this time round. Labour will get it back when those seats are up again...

So more of a fluke than it is spectacular then Smiley

The Bradford results are coming in; the BNP have taken (largely lower middle class) Queensbury from the Tories, but have lost (largely working class) Wibsey to Labour.
Labour have taken close to 70% in an inner city ward (Little Horton).

Any trends (beyond the regional thing) spotted by anyone? I'm going to do a bit of that when I'm next online.

One trend very, very clear though; areas with large Kashmiri populations swung heavily to Labour (although the sheer scale of the swing in City ward was something else...)
