Howard is only staying on as leader of the party until they change the way they elect the leader. Good choice probably, their current system gave them IDS last time.....

Was it her own vote? Or wasn't it? She was standing in all four Cardiff seats after all. Smiley

Non news. There was an article in the Indy a few days ago saying that. And they didn't present it as a speculation, either.

So when's this going to be presented? And when will the NI results start pouring in?

in the "responses from around the world" section of the BBC news on-line there are lots of remarks from Chirac, Ahern, and the like.  But surprisingly, nothing from Mr. Bush.  I guess I was wrong about him calling up to say howdy.  Wanting to be first and all.  You'd thing that the master would have the decency to give what Mohammed Sa'id Al-sahaf called "Mr. Bush's little dog" a congratulatory call, being as how the fool stuck with him during all that Iraq nastiness.  Oh, well, Laura bitches about him being a party pooper.  Bed by nine and such.

...Wirral West by over a 1000 votes, so I'd like to know why this took so long. Crawley by 37 votes. Pete's sources were pretty good.

few surprises, it seems Al.  Your pollsters are beginning to learn their trade.  I also think you were right about Major's poor judgement, although now I think that in the interview I mentioned he was probably trying to boost morale in his party and their US sympathizers, rather than predict anything.

Oh, btw, it is now impossible for the Tories to hit 200. Unless a miracle has happened and they take one of those three Northern Irish seats they're standing in.

Adams cracked 70%, and the opposition is split. I'd have to check, but that makes West Belfast a strong contender for "safest seat in the UK".

Nope: beaten by Bootle, L'Pool Walton, and (I think) Easington. And seeing as you might as well add up the Labour-Ebbw Vale and Labour-Tredegar votes in BG... you get *glup* over 90%...

Thatcher is very "in" just now in the USA I think.  I still can't figure out why so many of my countrymen seem to like Mr. Blair (?!)  Well I can see how the scorched-earth Republicans and Democrats, and the neoconservatives, do.  But the Republicans and the (many) Democrats who opposed US military intervention (and the coincident massive spending!) in Iraq seem to like him as well.  Guess I'm the only living yankee who'd welcome Gordon's face as a replacement for Blair.  Certainly the only Republican.  (maybe a few San Francisco republicans and the Log-Cabin faction as well) but otherwise it's a lonely day for american Blair-bashers.   By the way, and you know I like being right, check out the NY Times today.  Also, perhaps not surprisingly, foreign elections don't seem to weigh anything in the USA compared to the weight of US elections in other countries.  I must admit to being a little disappointed in the coverage.

We get news of "turning over power" to Mr. Brown, by the way.  There's no mention, that I can find, in the US press of Mr. Gordon.

Labour hold Dumfries & Galloway. Labour's notional vote must have been understated.

Must have been Stranraer Smiley that made it so. A nice bit of red on the map!

Pity about the other one - looks like Tory Dumfrieshire outvoted Clydesdale (Lab) and Tweedale (LD) or is it not as simple as that?

Howard denied a majority - no surprise.

And justly so!
